Santiago Island is the largest of the Cape Verde islands. The meaning of Santiago translates into “Saint James” from the Portuguese which is the official language of the Cape Verde Islands. Discovered and colonized by the Portuguese in the 15th century they are a favorite tourist destination of many today. The inner regions of the island contain decent mountains that allow for farming.
In the past known for infamous concentration camp of Tarrafal the island is now pretty laid back offering a range of accommodation, food and things to do. The surrounding volcanic islands offer plenty of possibilities for some interesting excursions. Cape Verde enjoys a stable and democratic government. The real estate market is attractive made by the fact that housing and especially land parcels are still quite affordable. With the popularity of the tourism industry this could provide some nice returns on investments
